Economic Evaluation in MODAM

The economic evaluation of the crop, forage and animal production practices in MODAM takes place in a sub-model, based on a separate database. Costs are calculated with respect to the farm machinery, the distances between the farmyard and the specific field and interest costs. Proceeds from all sold outputs are based on the scenario-specific prices. Energy consumption and required labour per management operation are derived from standard data tables where available but can also be entered manually in the MODAM Set Editor. For scenarios in Germany the highly elaborated cost tables of the Association for Technology and Structures in Agriculture (KTBL) are used. The results are summarised in detailed tables characterising each production technique with different cost categories, its proceeds and its gross margin. The evaluation can then be used to optimise farm organisation (crop rotation, share of crop in crop rotation, resources used) based on the gross margin calculated by the sub-model.
