Tourism

Tourism, which plays a significant role in Brandenburg’s economy, is greatly dependent on the area’s natural resources (landscape, nature and water). One effect of climate change is that it is likely to prolong the tourist season. However, nature and water tourism in particular will suffer from climate change-induced restrictions and is likely to find itself in conflict with nature conservation and water management.

For this reason, a management system is to be established to enable tourism businesses to adapt flexibly to climate change. Using the example of the Barnim tourist area and the Oder-Spree Lake District, tourist destination and business management strategies are to be developed and tested using the expertise of partners from nature conservation and water management sectors as well as small- and medium-sized tourism businesses.
