Project 04

Climate-adapted regional planning for Uckermark-Barnim and Lausitz-Spreewald

Regional climate change adaptation can be institutionalized through a coordinated spatial planning approach. The aim is therefore to exemplarily development an overall regional planning strategy for adaptation to climate change in land use and water management.

In a joint research and development process, scientists and employees of planning authorities develop, test, and evaluate planning and management methods, which enable the parties to strategic adaptation to climate change impacts. Ensuring at the same time the flexible integration of appropriate measures in the existing spatial planning tools.

In sub-project 04 designed and tested methods and tools for climate-adaptive regional planning directly serve the regional planning bodies Uckermark-Barnim and Lausitz-Spreewald. Sub-project 04 brings together knowledge developed by other INKA BB sub-projects to form site-specific measures for the administrative consideration.

Using model regional plans a climate-adaptive optimization of land use will be developed. On the one hand by reducing damage potential and thus risk potential and on the other hand by formulating requirements for downstream planning thus taking into account climate change related developments and providing a planning provision for investments (business, tourism, infrastructure).

The participating planning authorities and administrations are empowered in the process to develop strategic adaptive behavior and to act for the future.
