Project 06

Climate-flexible integrated crop production

Agriculture in the region of Brandenburg / Berlin has a high vulnerability to the negative impacts of climate change. The growing season 2010/2011 has reaffirmed the importance to design flexible and robust cropping systems.
The aim of the project is to work closely with partners to develop strategies so integrated crop production can be dynamically adapted to climate change. Two important aspects are system stability and the diversification of farm production. If weather causes a crop to provide a poor result, this decline can be attenuated with other products of the farm.
Sub-project 06 does not develop predefined solutions but site-specific management strategies that will enable farmers to respond flexibly to increasing weather fluctuations. Strategies will be shared with farmers so that they can quickly and safely adjust to yet today unpredictable weather patterns.

Current problems will be addressed in a newly founded network of scientists, consultants, professional associations and agricultural companies and possible solutions will be tested. The network provides information about its own internet platform: (www.klima-bob.de) Here are the latest information on soil management, climate change and the activities of the subproject available.
