Insurance as an adaptation strategy to weather risks

Subproject 11 deals with the possibilities of institutional risk protection.

With the projected increase in the number and amplitude of exceptional dry / wet periods insurance solutions are an appropriate approach to address the increasing volatility of the extreme weather conditions.

The pros and cons of already available systems for the distribution of risks (such as free insurance, insurance, funds solution) are analyzed and discussed under the specific perspective of the impact of climate change on the region.

Parallel design possibilities of further market-oriented and funds-based solutions are developed and tested. Additionally internet-based decision support tools are developed.

Partners in the research process are the insurance industry, the State Farmers' Association and policy makers in Brandenburg.

TP 11 develops a decision support system in the form of prototype-based online insurance calculation tools, which can be used directly farmers, the insurance industry and policy makers.

The product range is completed by drought-oriented components and extends the existing risk-sharing models with approaches to a funds solution.
